The Meta-App

Over the last week, three people have asked me this question:

“What new applications have you downloaded to your phone?”

With an explosion of iPhone applications, finding applications you like is  a non-trivial exercise. I would love to see an application that showed me a list of applications my friends have and gave me the option to download them on my phone. We have systems for sharing movies, books, music etc. but not applications.

Build it!

You actually have a few options:

    - a simple digg approach (http://iphone.iusethis.com/)
    - a recommendation engine built by the guys at adpinion (http://adpinion.com/app/appalanche)
    - traditional reviews (http://iphoneapplicationlist.com/)
    - and of course, the top download lists in the app store itself

The offerings are still being improved, and aren’t nearly as robust as some of the solutions for desktop apps. It’ll be interesting to see if a social approach will emerge…or if there is already one that I just haven’t heard of!
